Prayer for Tuesday 18th February

We pray for everyone who finds themselves in trouble at this time, whether through illness or bereavement, unemployment or homelessness, violence or persecution, anxiety or depression. For those who feel themselves   surrounded by a thick fog of darkness, and are unable to see your light. When we are tempted to despair, help us to remember that you are always with us, that, through your death and resurrection, you have already defeated the powers of death and darkness, and that the final victory is assured in you. Help us to remember the words of St Paul: ‘who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or  nakedness, or peril, or sword?…I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.’ (Romans 8:35-39)  Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
